John Kaylor

He worked his first shift on December 1, 1978, and didn’t have to wait long to fight his first fire, catching a well involved structure fire in a large, occupied residence on his first shift.

John has been passionate about firefighter safety since the first day he started his lengthy career. John was promoted to Captain at 26 years old and lead the Redding Fire Department Equipment and PPE committee for over 10 years. He was promoted to Battalion Chief in 1999, and 11 months later was promoted to Deputy Fire Chief, where he served in that position until he retired in 2011. John completed multiple California State Fire Marshal training programs and during his tenure as a Chief Officer, attended the Executive Fire Officer (EFO) Program at the National Fire Academy.

After retiring from the Redding Fire Department, John worked for 11 years as a Sales Representative in the Fire Equipment and PPE industry.

John brings extensive experience and knowledge in the areas of Sales, Budgeting, Purchasing and Grant Administration to the Great West Fire and Safety Leadership Team.
